Introduction to buying a projector for your business

Over the past one and half decades, multimedia projectors have been integral to meeting rooms and business presentations having displaced slide projectors and transparencies as the key equipment used to deliver presentations. Today, projectors are vital not only in the business context, but are equally in demand from the education sector as teaching methods and aids have evolved quickly recently.

With growing demand from diverse markets and types of buyers, projectors have also evolved significantly, resulting not only in a wide range of products but also considerable reduction in projector prices from their levels seen a few years ago. The miniaturization trend that pervades most consumer electronics is prevalent in projectors too, manufacturers battle to shrink the size of the equipment while continuing to enhance the key specifications with the use of newer materials, different projection technologies and better electronics engineering and optoelectronics.

Three Ps of a projector purchase

With most of the worlds leading office electronics makers involved in manufacturing and supplying projectors, there is no dearth of choice for a projector buyer. In fact, buyers can be spoilt for choice with hundreds of different models available at a wide range of price points to meet diverse requirements. Despite this, buying a projector can be reasonably simple too, if a buyer were to focus on the Three Ps of a projector purchase: Performance, Portability and Price. Performance includes criteria such as the resolution and the brightness required. Of course, there are a host of other technical criteria that must be considered and are explained in greater detail in a subsequent chapter.

In this projector buyers guide, we will briefly touch upon the different projection systems, cover the key parameters of resolution and brightness and provide some simple buying tips to choose the right projector and projector supplier for your particular needs.
