Hospitals in Wales are set to ban vending machines dispensing junk food like chips and chocolate and carbonated drinks in the next six months, according to a news report. The restrictions will not be applied to vending machines selling healthy food and drinks such as water and fruit juice, says the report.
The new restrictions from the Health Ministry are in line with steps to overcome the obesity problem in Wales. It is reported that almost one-fifth of Wales early teenagers are obese as are more than half of adult men and women.
Reportedly, trial projects are underway at leisure centres in Wales to provide healthy food and drink choices from vending machines.
