Point of sale systems Blog
One of the critical components of a point of sale (POS) system is the software. For retailers, the importance of having a high-quality POS software from a reliable, service-oriented company is imperative.  Jeff Haefner of POS Software Guide points to 5 common mistakes that retailers can make when looking to buy POS software.

Excerpted below are those 5 mistakes:

a) Buying hardware instead of the software first -- this is a folly because different software have different hardware requirements

b) Getting advice from the wrong people -

c) Not doing enough due diligence on the character of a software company

d) "Passing the buck" ie. the responsibility for evaluation/ selection of the POS software is given to somebody else

e) Not considering key features and functions required.

Verifone's contactless payment solution was awarded with "The Payment Solution" award at the European Retail Solutions Awards 2008. The award was jointly given to sandwich retailer EAT and solution providers Verifone, Commidea and Common Sense EPoS for installing a fully integrated contactless payment system within the UK retail environment.

The award-winning integrated solution uses a Verifone Vx 510 countertop payment system that runs Commidea's pre-certified Ocius software combined with VeriFone's contactless reader.  Using this solution, customers at EAT could choose the payment option that suited them best: cash, contactless card or Chip and PIN. For contactless transactions less than GBP10, customers could pay with just a wave of the card against the reader, thus taking less than a second for the entire process.

Overall, the new solution resulted in considerable time savings for patrons at the retail outlet, one of the reasons that made the solution popular and noteworthy for the award.
Sportswear leisure brand Trespass is using Eurostop’s retail management system to manage sales and stock across its 70 stores in the country. Eurostop’s e-pos is now used on over 82 tills in stores and links the e-rmis head office solution with its ERP back office system.

As a result of the implementation of this retail system, Trespass can now manage stock across its stores, with automatic re-ordering. Moreover, Trespass can use the customer data collected to plan and execute targeted marketing and loyalty programs.  Eurostop’s e-pos retail management solutions are expected to be rolled out across the Nevisport retail stores also.
US-based Vision Point of Sale (Vision POS) has upgraded to a new integrated enterprise-wide system to improve its point of sale equipment and service offering to clients with greater responsiveness and better scalability.

The new system will provide access to expanded client sales history reports, offer better ordering functionality and increased order processing features that will speed-up delivery to Vision clients. As this upgrade is to the company’s internal operating system only, there will be no changes to all existing contact information.

“The ERP system that is now in place will help our customers identify and deploy the point of sale solutions they need with more speed and efficiency than we've ever offered before," says Vision President and COO Jeff Nixon.
