According to a news report on the the HellMail website, the Signed For post now includes postcode verification. However, it seems that there is a view that using a franking machine might be a better alternative, in terms of significant savings in time, for somebody who does this regularly. At least that is the impression given by a trader quoted in the news item, who reportedly franks his letters instead of queuing up in the post office.
Meanwhile separate news report on the same website mentions the growth in the online business of Spanish postal service operator, Correos. What is interesting is that its postal franking grew an impressive 21.7% in 200.
Looks like there is still quite a demand for franking... and consequently, franking machines!

A leading postal advisory service in East Sussex, Courir says that using a franking machine can bring considerable cost saving to businesses, which gets larger as the number/ weight of items sent by mail increases.
According to an article in the Hellmail.co.uk, which was based on an interview with the head of Courir, while the use of a franking machine can mean reduced costs, one must remember that there is some upfront expenditure as well as some recurring costs. Nationwide Franking Sense, a family-run franking company, has obtained £1 million in funding to support its business expansion, reports The Bolton News.
The company, which supplies franking machines and other mailing equipment, has been on a drive to increase its franking machine leasing business, with leasing becoming a key component of its growth strategy due to the relatively high cost of new franking machines. The news report also cites Nationwide Franking as the first non-manufacturer of franking machines in the UK to be approved by Royal Mail."
